Your Initial Consultation

At Behavioral Health of New York, we consider your initial consultation one of the most important parts of your therapy process. Our director, Dr. Mitchell Levy, will spend a generous amount of time with you and conduct a thorough, in-depth consultation. The purpose of the consultation is to determine which therapy method will be most effective for your particular situation and which clinician in our practice will be the best fit for you.

Dr. Levy will take the time to understand what brings you to therapy and what you’d like to accomplish. He will be interested in any relevant history pertinent to your current situation, which may include family, relationships, any upsetting or traumatic events, or work-related issues. If you’ve had therapy before, Dr. Levy will be interested to know what you liked about it, what you didn’t like, and what you learned. This information will be very helpful in determining the right therapy method for you.

Everyone has their own unique challenges that bring them to therapy. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship issues, ADHD, OCD, or other challenges, it’s important for us to understand how these challenges affect you—how they impact your thoughts, behaviors, and overall life satisfaction. Dr. Levy will discuss these particular issues with you and how they affect you day to day as well as over time. This information will also help inform which clinician and which therapy method is best suited to you.
